Since 2025, Morten was Emeritus Professor at the University of East Anglia, after joining its law school in 2004. Before joining UEA law school, he held posts in economics departments at the University of Copenhagen, Warwick, and UEA. He was the perfect blend of interdisciplinary work – a true scholar of law and of economics with an unrivalled understanding of the creative industries.
At UEA he was founding member of the CCP, the Centre for Competition Policy, directing the CCP between 2011 and 2018. His first work with CREATe started at the CCP, when UEA was part of the initial CREATe RCUK consortium (alongside Glasgow, Edinburgh, Goldsmiths, Nottingham, St Andrews, and Strathclyde) in 2012-2018.
We were tremendously happy to welcome him back to CREATe in 2025 when he joined us as Honorary Professor. He has left a mark: enlivening our Spring School with the economic theories and realities of the creative industries, sitting down with individuals to challenge the assumptions in their papers, and encouraging the pursuit of ‘weird’ avenues of research. He inspired generations of scholars in competition policy and beyond. We intend to honour that legacy in the new academic year.
He will be missed.
