Title: From Understanding Erythrocyte Invasion in Malaria to Design of Improved Vaccines
Synopsis: Professor Matt Higgins - "The malaria parasites must invade our red blood cells in order to replicate, transmit and cause the symptoms of disease. I will present our studies of the PfPCRCR complex, which is essential for erythrocyte invasion, revealing what we know about this molecular machine. I will show how antibodies block the function of PfPCRCR and how we use this information to design novel vaccine immunogens. I will focus on our vaccines targeting the PfRH5 protein, showing how they have progressed through pre-clinical testing."
