Professor Tom Evans awarded CBE

We were thrilled to learn that School of Infection & Immunity Professor of Molecular Microbiology Tom Evans has been recognised in this year’s King's Birthday Honours list, published on Friday 16 June 2023.

We were thrilled to learn that School of Infection & Immunity Professor of Molecular Microbiology Tom Evans has been recognised in this year’s King's Birthday Honours list, published on Friday 16 June 2023.

Professor Evans, who also serves as Dean of Global Engagement (Middle East & Africa), is to receive a Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (CBE) for services to healthcare during Covid-19.

He said: "I am delighted and surprised to receive notice of this honour in recognition of my work in healthcare during the COVID-19 pandemic.

"I am enormously grateful to many colleagues across Scotland who all worked so hard to ensure we could provide the best possible clinical and scientific advice during that period.”

As well as several University of Glasgow alumni, the School of Medicine, Dentistry & Nursing's Professor Donald McMillan, was also recognised, receiving an OBE for services to cancer research.

Principal Professor Sir Anton Muscatelli said: “Congratulations to all those connected to the university who are recipients of the King’s Birthday Honours for 2023.

"It is tremendous to once again see the university community recognised and it is indicative of the breadth of talent, hard work, and dedication that the university’s success is built upon.”
