ECR away day I 700x300

The annual Immunobiology Early Career Researcher symposium was held at the Kelvin Hall recently and included a keynote lecture from the University of Edinburgh's Dr Henry McSorley.

Organised by Post Docs and PhD students, the event presents early career researchers with an opportunity to come along and present their data in a relaxed atmosphere as well as gaining a wealth of helpful career advice.

ECR Away Day II

In an interesting and candid account, Dr McSorley detailed his academic journey, from a very intriguing hookworm Celiac trial in Brisbane to his Chancellor’s fellowship in Edinburgh.

This year's programme included an ECO session during which Dr Gavin Meehan, of the iii eco group, gave valuable advice on how students and staff can help to reduce the University’s carbon footprint.

A diverse careers panel composed of an account manager, medical writer, lecturer, chancellor’s fellow, and a university teacher then highlighted the value of the transferrable skills aquired over the course of a PhD and ways in which they can be put to use.

The symposium was concluded with a range of presentations by PhD students and Post Docs detailing the projects that they have been working on within the Institute of Infection, Immunity, and Inflammation (iii).
