Dr Eve Smith recently appeared on BBC Radio Scotland’s Morning with Stephen Jardine to discuss juvenile arthritis and other rheumatic diseases affecting children, as part of the World Young Rheumatic Disease Day campaign on 18 March 2026.

The School of Infection & Immunity's Dr Eve Smith featured on BBC Radio Scotland’s Morning with Stephen Jardine on 12 March 2026 for a special surgery on juvenile arthritis.
During the programme, Clinical Senior Lecturer in Paediatric Rheumatology Dr Smith discussed paediatric rheumatic diseases and answered callers' questions.
The discussion, which included contributions from parents of children living with these conditions, highlighted ongoing research taking place in Sii.
Dr Smith also addressed the importance of early diagnosis and common misconceptions, including the idea that symptoms may be ‘just growing pains’ or that arthritis only affects older people.
The feature provided an important opportunity to raise awareness of conditions that affect hundreds of children across Scotland as part of the World Young Rheumatic Disease Day (WORD Day) campaign.
WORD Day took place on Wednesday, 18 March 2026, and is an initiative by the Pediatric Rheumatology European Society (PReS) to highlight the challenges faced by young people living with rheumatic diseases.
