Delegates (Professor Adamu Ahmed; Professor YKE Ibrahim; Professor Iliya S. Ndams, Professor Emmanuel Balogun, Harry de Koning; Andy Schofield, Iain McInnes) stood together in a room in front of a white board and behind a conference table.

Earlier this month, the School of Infection & Immunity, together with the wider College of MVLS, welcomed a delegation from Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) in Zaria, Nigeria.

ABU, the largest university in Africa’s most populous nation, has a student body of around 50,000.

The delegation consisted of Vice Chancellor Professor Adamu Ahmed; Head of the African Centre of Excellence for Neglected Tropical Diseases (ACENTD); Professor YKE Ibrahim; Professor Iliya S. Ndams, and Professor Emmanuel Balogun.

Their visit on Monday, 1 and Tuesday, 2 December, coordinated by Sii Professor of Parasite Biochemistry and Pharmacology Harry de Koning, aimed to explore potential partnerships in support of a forthcoming funding application.

The proposal seeks to extend the ACENTD to include the interactions of neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) with certain non-communicable diseases that are on the rise in the region, such as diabetes, certain cancers, and cardiovascular diseases.

During their stay, the delegation participated in a series of meetings with key figures, including our Head of School, Professor Julia Edgar, Head of the School of Cardiovascular & Metabolic Health Professor Christian Delles, Head of College Professor Iain McInnes, and Principal and Vice Chancellor, and Professor Andy Schofield (Principal and Vice Chancellor).
