The inaugural lecture of Nicola Veitch, Professor of Bioscience Education and Parasitology in the School of Infection & Immunity, took place on Thursday, 11 September 2025.
Hosted by Sii and the College of Medicine, Veterinary, and Life Sciences' Learning, Teaching, and Scholarship Network, the hour-long afternoon lecture was followed by a drinks reception.
In front of a full house in the Yudowitz Lecture Theatre of the Wolfson Medical School Building, Professor Veitch delivered a memorable and wonderfully well-received talk, titled Blending the Biosciences in a Digital World.
Posting on LinkedIn, the official MVLS Learning, Teaching, & Scholarship Network account said:
"This afternoon we were treated to an inspiring and wonderfully human inaugural lecture by Professor Nicola Veitch, who gave an overview of her career from postdoc to professor.
"Professor Veitch has a wide-ranging profile but a particularly impressive track record of externally funded projects and innovative public engagement, including - and these were not words we expected to type today - dressing up as a tsetse fly.
"What really shines through in all of her work, though, is Professor Veitch's collaborative approach to her own career and to supporting the careers of others.
“That's particularly those on the Learning, Teaching, and Scholarship track, and we're lucky to have her be part of our community.”
Keen to express her gratitude, Professor Veitch added: "Thank you to everyone who attended my inaugural lecture.
"It was an emotional day seeing so many colleagues, past and present. It was also lovely to have my family there with me and to be able to embarrass my kids with a few funny photos!"
Congratulations, Professor Veitch!
Thanks also to all those who organised and attended, helping to make the afternoon such a memorable success.
