Rachael Hamilton MSP visited the School of Infection & Immunity on Thursday, 28 August 2025 for a tour of the Sir Graeme Davies Building and a roundtable discussion with members of the RACE (Rheumatoid Arthritis Pathogenesis Centre of Excellence) team.

As Deputy Convenor of the Scottish Parliament's Cross-Party Group on Arthritis and Musculoskeletal Conditions, Ms Hamilton engaged with researchers and clinicians to learn more about RACE’s leading work in inflammatory disease research.

The visit also included a presentation from Liam Middleton on the University of Glasgow’s regional economic impact, highlighting our contribution to innovation and public health.

Ms Hamilton, who represents Ettrick, Roxburgh, and Berwickshire in the Scottish Parliament, said: “It has given me great pleasure to be in Glasgow today.

“I’ve been looking at the RACE project and the research facilities, and I’ve found this visit absolutely fascinating.

“It is incredible, the work they do here at the University of Glasgow in collaboration with Birmingham, Newcastle, and Oxford. It's a real collaboration, but it’s also very patient-focused.

“As someone who has rheumatoid arthritis, I’ve learned just how important it is that, in terms of government intervention, we invest in research and innovation.”

Ms Hamilton intends to share what she learned with other members of the Cross-Party Group to inform future discussions around healthcare policy and research funding.
