and what is randomisation?  

We've had lots of questions about randomisation, so Professor Helen Minnis has made a video to explain why it is wise to randomise.  Randomisation is both helpful and ethical. There is the complete clip (about 10 minutes), but we've also chopped it into "bite size bits" (duration 45 seconds to 2 minutes), so you can watch it bit-by-bit or all at once.
