Equality and Diversity for LGBTQ+: request for volunteers to join new IHW Athena Swan working group

IHW is launching a new Athena SWAN working group to identify and address LGBTQ+ concerns, and looking for volunteers to join

Photos of LGBT+ and trans flagsSince 2012, the IHW Athena Swan working groups have been making great strides in promoting equality and diversity for men and women, academic and professional services staff, students and most recently 50+ workers.

However, following feedback at this year’s Research Away Day, it has become clear that more could be done to promote visibility and equality for LGBTQ+ staff. We are delighted that two staff members Dr Caroline Haig and Dr Rafael Venson have agreed to take the lead in this area. They are looking for volunteers to join an AS Working Group to identify and address LGBTQ+ concerns. The group will meet around three times a year, and is likely to be involved (at least initially) in raising LGBTQ+ visibility through workshops, HAWKEYE items, emails and at IHW away days.

The group is open to anyone interested in supporting equality and inclusiveness for LGBTQ+ staff and students (including those who are not LGBTQ+ themselves but wish to contribute to this important work). If you are interested in joining or would like to find out more, please do email Caroline (Caroline.Haig@glasgow.ac.uk) or Rafael (Rafael.Venson@glasgow.ac.uk).
