In November 2019, IHW successfully bid for funding to support 3 equality, diversity and inclusion initiatives

In November 2019, IHW submitted bids to the Wellcome Trust Institutional Strategic Support Fund (ISSF): Diversity and Inclusion - which is administered by the College of MVLS - for funding to support 3 equality, diversity and inclusion initiatives. We are delighted to report that all were successful, as follows:

  • Our Athena SWAN 50+ Workers Group has been funded to employ a Grade 6 member of staff to investigate and put together a toolkit for older workers, set up a network of support workers for older staff, and organise an event aimed at raising awareness of issues faced by this group of colleagues.
  • Our Athena SWAN Maternity, Paternity and Carer Group has been funded to deliver an event aimed at raising awareness of the issues faced by staff and students who have caring responsibilities, and the ways in which we can best support these colleagues.
  • Public Health's Lorraine Waddell and IHW Admin's Jane Goodfellow have been funded to run monthly BSL cafes for existing BSL users (and those who are interested in learning) to practice their skills, and to raise awareness of deaf culture. This builds on the 6-week BSL introductory training which we organised earlier this year, and which was reported on in October 2019's edition of HAWKEYE. If you are interested in coming along to these events, please contact Lorraine at Lorraine.Waddell@glasgow.ac.uk.

We are grateful to MVLS colleagues for supporting our initiatives, and look forward to reporting back on how funds have been used in future editions of HAWKEYE.
