HEHTA partners with FutureLearn on new course

HEHTA has linked up with digital online learning platform FutureLearn to offer a 10-week, 10-credit microcredentials course starting 27 July 2020

Web version microcredentials The Health Economics and Health Technology Assessment (HEHTA) research group has linked up with digital online learning platform FutureLearn to offer a 10-week, 10-credit microcredentials course starting on 27 July 2020.

Jim Lewsey, Eleanor Grieve, Dikshyanta Rana, Houra Haghpanahan and Alieda McKinney were involved in the creation of the course which draws on the expertise at HEHTA to give learners a potential avenue into a career in health technology assessment (HTA).

By the end of the course students will be able to:

  • Critically discuss the key concepts of health economics (definitions of health, utility, health care market (supply and demand), outcomes (costs, life years, quality adjusted life years)
  • Critically discuss the key concepts of health technology assessment (definitions of technology, the disciplines involved, the stakeholders, outputs, assessment, appraisal, dissemination, impact)
  • Critically evaluate the contribution of health economics and health technology assessment to health care decision making
