GP "TALE" conference a resounding success!

On 05 September 2023, around 140 GP tutors and educational supervisors working with UofG medical students gathered to learn, consolidate, share, reflect and connect with fellow educators at the annual "TALE" conference

On 05 September 2023 we ran another successful GP tutor annual conference (otherwise known as "TALE") at the Beardmore Conference Centre, Glasgow with ~140 delegates.

The morning session heard 10 speakers present a mix of lightning talks and short presentations.

The topics ranged from "How civility saves lives" (which involved snowballs of ideas being thrown around the auditorium!) to neurodiversity and empowering educators.

We also enjoyed hearing from three students who presented their projects, one of which was the highest scoring talk on the feedback – Abi Rowland shared a great Quality improvement Project investigating the practicalities of the emergency bag in primary care setting.

We enjoyed lunch outside in the sun(!) and two workshops in the afternoon. Delegates could choose from a list of 12 workshop options, some for specific year group tutors and others of interest e.g.

  • How to support students
  • Clinical reasoning
  • Unleashing the potential for online teaching.

We have received glowing feedback from the delegates in our feedback. One Year 4/5 tutor said:

"I attended the TALE event yesterday. I have completed the feedback form. However, I wanted to write more personally to thank you all for what was a superb event. I am always impressed by the quality and breadth of teaching, and always leave feeling very inspired and enthused. As was alluded to yesterday, medical education is the cornerstone of professional and personal satisfaction for many, and it has certainly been true in my career. Events like TALE really help to cement this and truly inspire me for the year ahead. I haven't stopped thinking about the issues raised regarding neurodiversity and clinical reasoning, and I'm already plotting how I can incorporate this into both my undergraduate and postgraduate training with our GPSTs. I really appreciate all of the effort you put into teaching and promoting general practice within the university."
