Road traffic accidents (RTA) are recognised to be an important cause of death and injury in serving military personnel but little is known about the risk in veterans. We used data from the Scottish Veterans Health Study to examine the risk of RTA in a large national cohort of veterans, in comparison with people who had never served.

Research by IHW's Dr Sara Macdonald and colleagues has found that while people over the age of 60 are much more likely to be diagnosed with cancer than younger people they feature far less often within media representations of the disease, with a possible impact on their perception of risk and attendance of screening.
