IHW Research Away Day 2018

The 2018 Research Away Day on 15th March was attended by over 150 staff and PhD students. The focus of the meeting was current research across the Institute and the three strategic research themes: Data science, Determinants of health and health inequalities, and Solution-focused research.
The 2018 Research Away Day on 15th March was attended by over 150 staff and PhD students. The focus of the meeting was current research across the Institute and the three strategic research themes: Data science, Determinants of health and health inequalities, and Solution-focused research.
Exemplar projects were used to illustrate how the three themes underpin the work of each of the seven IHW research groups, and parallel sessions provided a further showcase for some of the research projects currently being undertaken across the Institute.
One of the highlights was the 3 minute thesis competition for PhD students, which was won by Amy Ferguson, runners up Shadrach Dare and Annabel Farnood.
The Away Day ended with a session on Work-life Balance, which include some mindfulness activities and a panel discussion with members, including IHW Director Jill Pell, revealing their successes and challenges in maintaining a good work-life balance.
Attendees also celebrated the Institute's recent Athena Swan Gold award and voted on a new logo to represent the three strategic research themes. The winning design is shown here.
