Health n Equality

Chance2Change exhibition running throughout May in the Hub.
Together, Chance2Change worked with creative practitioner Lorna MacBean to write and devise spoken word poetry and joined forces with Day Day Designs and Drumchapel TV to create the accompanying films.
When we first started, we didn’t know poetry could be emotional – we thought it all had to rhyme in a posh accent! Now we know there are no rights or wrongs in poetry – we are the authors of our own stories. Writing can be stressful, but it can also make us laugh. We have been exercising our minds in a healthy place to honestly express ourselves. We have enjoyed experimenting and playing with language to find our voices through spoken word, poetry, art and film. We’ve done things we wouldn’t have dreamed of, found new confidences, worked collaboratively, and learned about different genres and ways to make meaning with art, words and visuals.
Though we started small, we have achieved big things. The art crafted from medicine boxes provides a thoughtful commentary on the role of medication in our lives. While pills undoubtedly have their place in addressing physical and mental health needs, this artwork serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of respect, understanding, and listening. True healing often transcends medical prescriptions; it lies in the empathy, connection, and support we offer one another. This balance, captured so eloquently in the intersection of art and medicine, encourages us to view health as a harmonious blend of treatment and human compassion.
The poems, films and artwork are our latest works in a portfolio of projects which hold the Scottish Government and relevant professionals to account. We take action to support ourselves, our peers, and our community through the persisting health inequalities which are made worse by the inaction of those who govern our society.
We hope you enjoy our work, that it speaks to you, and that it inspires you to take the chance to change the policies and practices that keep our communities in a state of suffering.
Health n Equality Dedicated in Loving Memory to Kevin Harvey, Community Activist, Our Filmmaker, Our Friend.
