Teaching and Learning
As well as teaching the classes listed below, I am deputy head of the mechanical engineering discipline, the school of engineering's representative on the inclusive assessment for quantitative disciplines (IAQD) working group and external examiner for undergraduate programmes in aerospace angineering at the University of Manchester.
My research involves precise orbit determination and force modelling of spacecraft and space debris as well as applying machine learning techniques to help improve teaching, through Student Voice
I also give public lectures and run a number of public engagement activites centred around 3D printing and space debris for those who are traditionally under-represented in engineering.
Mechanical Engineering Skills 3 - ENG3092
Aims to develop key professional skills required for a career in mechanical engineering and beyond. This includes, but is not limited to the areas of sustainability, ethics, risk management, security, equality and communication.
Control (Masters Level) - ENG5022
This course provides a theoretical background to classical control and shows how it is applied to real systems. Topics include frequency-domain and time-domain methods, multi-variable and state-space techniques, analogue control hardware, digital signal processing, and the use of digital embedded systems for control. A laboratory and an assignment give the opportunity to apply the methods practically.
Integrated Engineering Design (Masters Level) - ENG5043
Integrating creative and engineering design methods, knowledge and skills, within an open-ended masters level mechanical group design project.
Aerospace Systems Team Design Project (Masters Level) - ENG5012
This masters level aerospace design project gives students experience of the design architecture and process, trade-offs and team work required to design a flight control system for a tethered helicopter uav. The teams develop mathematical models of the vehicle, design controllers and evaluate their performance.
