Biography

I am a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Infrastructure and Environment Research Division at the James Watt School of Engineering, University of Glasgow, contributing to advanced offshore geotechnics and pile–rock interactions. My research bridges analytical/numerical modelling and practical geotechnical engineering challenges.

Academic Qualifications

  • 2017 – 2023: Ph.D. in Geotechnical Engineering, Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, India

  • 2015 – 2017: M.Tech. in Geotechnical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee, Roorkee, India

  • 2016 – 2017: DAAD-IIT Sandwich Program at TU Darmstadt, Darmstadt, Germany (7 months)

  • 2010 – 2014: B.Tech. in Civil Engineering, Dr. B. R. Ambedkar National Institute of Technology (NIT Jalandhar), Jalandhar, India

Employment

  • September 2026 – Present: Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Postdoctoral Fellow, Infrastructure and Environment Research Division, James Watt School of Engineering, University of Glasgow

  • March 2023 – August 2026: Geotechnical Engineer, Jacobs

Research interests

  • Offshore Geotechnics & Pile–Rock Interaction:

My current research focuses on the mechanics of pile–rock interaction for XXL monopiles under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Postdoctoral Fellowship project PIRI-OS. This involves optimising design of offshore wind turbine foundations in rocks.

  • Tunnelling & Underground Infrastructure:

My research in tunnelling relates to the analytical, semi-analytical, and numerical investigation of ground movements, surface settlements, and stress fields surrounding single and twin underground circular openings. I have developed closed-form solutions utilizing the complex variable method to capture non-uniform peripheral deformations and volume loss around circular tunnels in elastic media, as well as formulated analytical frameworks to evaluate the impact of horizontal earthquake body forces on ground stresses and structural lining demands. This is complemented by advanced numerical modelling—incorporating finite element methods and limit analysis across PLAXIS 2D, RS2, ABAQUS, and Optum G2—to simulate elasto-plastic ground response and the stability of supported and unsupported tunnels. In addition, I have validated semi-analytical settlement prediction approaches against field instrumentation data from Earth Pressure Balance (EPB) tunnel boring machine operations.

  • Soil–Structure Interaction & Advanced Numerical Modelling:

My research and consulting background covers advanced finite element modelling (FEM) and limit equilibrium methods (LEM) across platforms including PLAXIS 2D/3D, RS2/RS3, Optum G2, ABAQUS, Slope/W, Geo5 and Slide. I have worked on complex boundary value problems involving deep and shallow foundations, pile-raft systems, retaining structures, diaphragm walls, secant and contiguous bored piles, deep shafts, and slope stability.

  • Computational Geotechnics & Design Automation:

I am actively involved in bridging geomechanics with computational workflows. This includes developing Python-based routines to automate end-to-end numerical modelling tunnels in finite element packages including Plaxis-Python integration, automating parametric runs and implementing image-based analysis for geotechnical data extraction.
