Biography
Dr Hanaa Abumarshoud is a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) at the University of Glasgow working within the Autonomous Systems & Connectivity Division in the James Watt School of Engineering. Prior to that, she was a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the LiFi Research and Development Centre at the University of Strathclyde (2020-2022) and the University of Edinburgh, (2017-2020). She was awarded her MSc and PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering in 2013 and 2017 from Khalifa University, UAE.
Dr Abumarshoud's main expertise is the application of information theory and signal processing techniques in visible light communications and LiFi systems, with a particular focus on intelligent communications, resource allocation, multi-user access, and physical layer security. Her research agenda includes working on smart solutions for utilising the indoor environment to enhance the LiFi capabilities through the concept of intelligent reflecting surfaces and the concept of intelligent adaptive transceivers. She aspires to contribute to the development of energy-efficient and cost-effective light-based connectivity solutions for next-generation wireless networks.
Dr Abumarshoud actively serves as a technical reviewer for several international journals and conferences within the IEEE, the Royal Society, and the Optical Society, and as a member of the Technical Program Committee for prestigious conferences. She was endorsed as "Global Talent" by the Royal Academy of Engineering in the UK.
