Biography

I am a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellow (2022-2024) with the project CHILDCULTURES: Challenging Adultism, Anthropocentrism and Other Exclusions with Children’s Literature and Culture. Previously, I have been Principal Researcher and Adjunct Professor at Universidad Católica de Chile. I led the research line BioSocioCultural Inclusion of the Centre for Advanced Studies in Educational Justice and the research project “Emotional and Literary Repertoires for Childhood” (Fondecyt Starting Grant). I have authored two monographs —Origin Narratives. The Stories We Tell Children about Immigration and International Adoption (Routledge, 2017), and Enseñando a sentir. Repertorios éticos en la ficción infantil (Metales Pesados, 2021)—, as well as several articles and book chapters on children's literature, reading promotion, culture and education. I have been visiting scholar at the Institute for Cultural Studies in Graz, the Collegium Helveticum in Zurich, the Internationale Jugendbibliothek in Munich and at the Wroclaw University in Wroclaw. In 2021, I convened the 25th Congress of the International Research Society for Children’s Literature Aesthetic and Pedagogic Entanglements. I founder and director of the collaborative platform #Estotbn which works on reading promotion and cultural recommendations with young people and librarians in Chile. I have collaborated with other institutions such as the Ministry of Education and the International Board of Books for Young People (IBBY) in projects related to children’s literature and children’s participation. I have also served as a jury for different award committees (IBBY, Fondart, Premio SM, among others).

I hold a PhD in Social Anthropology and Cultural Studies from the University of Zurich and a MA in Cultural Studies from the Maastricht University. My first degree is in journalism and I worked as a cultural journalist for 6 years in Chile and Spain. I also coauthored La era ochentera. Tevé, pop y under en dictadura (2015) about cultural production and resistance during the dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet.

I am currently research associate at JOVIS.com and TALIS. I am part of the excecutive board of IRSCL and currently chair its Mentoring Programme.
