This invited consultation aimed to explore teacher education policy and provision in Scotland to inform the Education Council of the Netherlands on the teacher training work programme. Three key questions were considered in relation to the council’s recent report: What is the government’s role in teacher education? Are the existing proficiency standards adequate for teacher education? Is harmonization of teacher training programmes in other respects possible and desirable?
