University of Glasgow Professor Kay Livingston has received the Highest Recognition Award from the Association for Teacher Education in Europe (ATEE).

The ATEE Highest Recognition Award is the highest honour bestowed by the organisation. It celebrates individuals whose careers reflect the mission, vision and values of ATEE and whose work has made an exceptional and lasting contribution to teacher education, the professional community, and the development and visibility of ATEE.

Professor Livingston received the award in recognition of her outstanding and sustained contribution to the field of teacher education. In particular, the award celebrated Professor Livingston’s longstanding leadership role within ATEE and her years as Editor of the European Journal of Teacher Education (EJTE).

Conferring the award, ATEE President Professor Agnieszka Szplit said:

“Through your international academic career and your commitment to connecting research, policy and practice, you have consistently promoted excellence, innovation and the quality of teacher education while building bridges across the international teacher education community.”

The award was presented at the ATEE Annual Conference 2026, which took place in August at the University of Bialystok, Poland. The conference also marked the ATEE’s 50th anniversary.

Kay Livingston is Professor Emerita at the School of Education. She continues to engage with policy-makers, school leaders, teachers and key educational stakeholders at international and national levels.
