Recently appointed UofG Principal and Vice-Chancellor Professor Andy Schofield visited the School of Education on Tuesday, 10 February, marking his first official visit to the School since his appointment.

Professor Schofield met with Head of School Professor Kristinn Hermannsonn before addressing colleagues in the School gym hall, where he spoke briefly about his vision for the future of the University and responded to questions on issues including the role of AI in education, recruitment challenges in Higher Education, and the Univerrsity's financial situation.

Professor Schofield praised the School for its commitment to social justice, and encouraged colleagues to continue to engage in work that helped strengthen communities and improve lives.

Professor Schofield became the University's 51st Principal and Vice-Chancellor when he took up the post on 1 Oct, 2025. A profile of the Principal was published in the Dec 2025 issue of Avenue Magazine.

At the conclusion of his visit, Professor Schofield was presented with an SoE teddy bear as a keepsake.
