Travel and accommodation

HOW TO GET HERE

Those of you who are coming from further away may already wish to arrange your transport to and from Glasgow. You should find this link helpful; it includes, for instance, maps and a note of all the airlines that serve Glasgow directly. The University is located in Glasgow's West End, and is reached by underground from the centre of the city (the two stops nearest to the University are Hillhead and Kelvinbridge), or bus. There is a shuttle bus from Glasgow Airport that will take you into the city centre, or if you'd rather hire a cab, consider ordering one from Network Cabs (0141 557 1110) or Glasgow Taxis (0141 429 7070). You should expect to pay £13-18 for a one-way journey.

OTHER COSTS

There is no registration fee for the conference. We hope to be able to cover most of the daily costs, including lunches and refreshments, and a dinner on the Saturday evening (apart from the drinks) for all conference speakers. Other participants may be charged a small fee towards catering (£10 per day).

We are also organising an optional extra, a coach trip on Sunday 13 September to New Lanark, where the utopian socialist Robert Owen had his factory in the early nineteenth century and itself a most attractive location in the Scottish countryside just south of Glasgow. We will have to ask for a modest contribution towards the costs of that excursion.
