New University Flexible Working Policy being developed

Published: 23 August 2019

The University is currently updating its flexible working policy - this should benefit many staff and students once finalised

Although the School of Chemistry already supports flexible working, we are excited to report that members of the University's Human Resources team are currently working on updating and improving the University's existing flexible working provisions. Once finalised, the new flexible working policy should:

  • Introduce the concept of 'informal' flexible working, requiring less paperwork to be completed
  • Recognise that flexible working may only be required on a temporary basis
  • Give new members of the University the right to request flexible working from the first day of employment
  • Provide additional guidance to managers about the process
  • Provide a flexible working toolkit for individuals who work flexibly

The University is also hoping to highlight in future job vacancies that applications are welcomed from candidates seeking flexible working.
