Biography
Elem is a Lecturer in Innovation at the University of Glasgow. She holds a PhD in Management and MRes from the University of Glasgow, an MBA in Management (Organisational Behaviour and Leadership), and a Bs in International Business Administration from Ohio Dominican University in Columbus, OH.
Elem’s research focuses on scaling digital start-ups to unravel the critical factors behind their high failure rates and identify the key mechanisms and capabilities required for successful scaling. By investigating the unique challenges digital ventures face as they grow, Elem provides insights into why many digital ventures struggle to sustain rapid scaling and how they can overcome these obstacles. Her work explores the strategic, operational, and leadership aspects that influence scalability, to contribute to a deeper understanding of the pathways to long-term success for digital start-ups.
Elem’s work seeks to enhance understanding of how digital start-ups leverage accelerators and innovation ecosystems to overcome scaling challenges and navigate the complexities of the digital marketplace. By examining the critical factors that influence success at each stage, her research contributes to shaping strategies for sustainable growth in the competitive and fast-paced digital landscape.
Research interests
Elem is a member of the School's Services and Operations Management research cluster.
Her research interests extend to digital entrepreneurship, with a particular emphasis on digital start-ups, digital scale-ups, and accelerators. She explores the dynamics of digital ventures from their inception in start-up ecosystems as they scale and become large enterprises.

Supervision
