The City Region Futures study will inform the future strategic thinking of Glasgow City Region Cabinet. It will be presented to the Glasgow City Region Economic Growth Commission which advises the Cabinet. The work will address themes concerning infrastructure, innovation, employment and skills. Professor McGregor is leading on the employment and skills agenda, building on extensive work he has carried out on skills planning for city regions across the UK including Aberdeen City and Shire; Glasgow City Region; Tay Cities; Edinburgh, Lothians and Borders; and Liverpool City Region.

His work will explore major trends in employment with a strong focus on considering the consequences for the labour market of accelerating developments in automation, artificial intelligence and machine learning. Analysis of changes in the size and composition of the working age population will also be a significant part of the study.
