Professor Gordon Hewitt CBE has been appointed to the Business School as an Honorary Professor.

Gordon is one of the world’s leading authorities on the challenge facing business leaders - creating value in dynamic, complex markets. He developed many of the original ideas about ‘game-changing strategy’ and ‘competitive disruption’, and is a senior faculty member at the Ross School of Business, University of Michigan.

Gordon has more than 25 years of experience working at CEO and Board level with major companies as a consultant. He has been involved in delivering business strategy and top leadership programmes for Pfizer, Philips, Chevron, IBM, Sony, Honeywell, Credit Suisse, Zurich Financial, Ericsson, Intel, Bosch, PepsiCo, Verizon and Time Warner.

Professor Gordon Hewitt said: “It’s a great honour to be awarded a Visiting Professorship at the Adam Smith Business School. It’s also very nostalgic. I was born and brought up in Glasgow, and spent my undergraduate and postgraduate student days at the University of Glasgow. My first job was in the Political Economy Department teaching economics in, at that time, the newly opened Adam Smith Building. There was no Business School in those days. Given the very dynamic and complex changes happening in the global business system, all managerial subjects are going through a rethink. So it’s also an exciting time to be involved, and try to contribute to the Adam Smith Business School’s future global reputation as a source of innovative and relevant business thinking.”

Welcoming the appointment, Professor John Finch, Head of the Adam Smith Business School said: “We are delighted to welcome Gordon Hewitt to the Adam Smith Business School as Honorary Professor. He brings with him a huge amount of experience in strategic foresight and has worked with world-leading academic and business leaders throughout his career. We look forward to his contribution to the School.”

Gordon will be working mainly with Glasgow MBA students, and with academics in the strategy cluster.

Gordon Hewitt was awarded the title of CBE (Commander of the British Empire) for services to international business and has been elected to Fellowship of the Royal Society of Edinburgh, Scotland’s national academy of science and letters.

He has been a member of the International Advisory Board of Scottish Enterprise and was also Chairman of Court, the Governing Board, at the University of Abertay Dundee from 2003 to 2010. Gordon is a member of Pfizer’s Global R&D Innovation Council. He is an Advisory Director of Mobiquity, a leading global digital technology company and a Global Advisory Director of DrumG, an emerging leader in Distributed Ledger Technology.
