Case Studies and examples

In its commitment to teaching excellence, a number of innovative projects have been carried out and are being carried out in the Adam Smith Business School. These projects are intended to promote active student engagement in learning and in assessment and feedback processes and to help develop the students’ capacity to self-regulate their own learning.

These innovations have been written up as brief case studies and so far cover:

Different projects focus on different things but essentially in each project students have opportunities to assess their own or their peer’s work, to generate their own internal feedback through comparing their work with rubrics. In these projects both individual and collaborative working are integrated in recognition that learning while an internal process benefits from interaction and dialogue from others. For example, when students work with others they are exposed to alternative perspectives and a wider range of ideas.
