Name: Isla Melee
"Living in Edinburgh my whole life I wanted to experience living in a new city. The beauty of the University took my breath away on the open day and I was sold on where I wanted to study."
Why did you choose the Adam Smith Business School?
My original degree was single honours Spanish, but after trying out Business and Management in my first year I realised I was pretty good at it and decided to change my degree to combine both Spanish and Business and Management.
What did you enjoy the most about your programme?
I loved the variety of classes I could take, in particular ED&I with Dr Kathleen Riach, her passion for the course was infectious.
How has your degree helped you in your career?
It inspired me to open an English Language Academy in Santander followed by working in a premium Extra Virgin Olive Oil company in Spain.
What have you been up to since graduating from the Business School?
After graduating I moved to Santander in the North of Spain to open an English Language Academy. In 4 years, it grew from 35 to 130 students with a waiting list. I recently moved back to Jaén where I spent my year abroad and I am currently working in the world of premium Extra Virgin Olive Oil with a family company and I am loving it so far!
What is your top piece of advice for current students - our future alumni?
If I am honest I wish I had socialised and partied more! Don't take the first 2 years too seriously before the hard work kicks in.
