Biography
Paul Campbell is a researcher in the School of Biodiversity, One Health & Veterinary Medicine at the University of Glasgow, where his work focuses on the population genetics and molecular epidemiology of parasitic nematodes of veterinary importance. His primary study organisms are Ostertagia ostertagi and Dictyocaulus viviparus, two of the most clinically and economically significant helminths of cattle in the UK.
His research applies amplicon sequencing, and population genomic approaches to questions of parasite dispersal, genetic structure, and the evolution of anthelmintic resistance. A central theme of his work is the development of molecular tools that can translate genomic insights into practical guidance for parasite management on farm. He is particularly interested in refugia-based anthelmintic stewardship and the role of parasite population genetics in informing resistance monitoring strategies and understanding the population biology of bovine lungworm.
