Jennifer studies the DNA of parasites of ruminant livestock to identify mutations underpinning resistance to commonly used medications. Currently she is working on a project investigating moxidectin resistance in the sheep scab mite, Psoroptes ovis, which causes severe itching (pruritus) in sheep and the disease is notifiable if diagnosed. She is also working to understand ivermectin and moxidectin resistance in sheep worms, primarily focused on Haemonchus contortus and Teladorsagia circumcincta. However, she has also been involved in work with cattle worms, including both gastrointestinal worms and lungworms, and has worked with researchers in Tanzania to understand gastrointestinal worms in livestock in the Serengeti, with a focus on benzimidazole and levamisole resistance in Haemonchus spp. Jennifer really enjoys teaching and is involved with the parasitology teaching for the BVMS and Veterinary BioSciences courses.
Jennifer originally worked as a vet in practice before starting her PhD in 2015. She enjoys weeding her garden, walking, catching up with friends and working with teenagers in her spare time.

Jennifer is a co-secretary for the British Association for Veterinary Parasitology (BAVP) - we are very friendly and membership is free. We host two meetings a year: one online and one in person - come and find out what we are like!
