How to apply for a scholarship

  1. Apply for your chosen programme of study.
  2. Once you receive your application number and student ID, browse all scholarships. All eligibility details, application deadlines and links are posted on individual scholarship webpages.

Do I need to pay my programme deposit when waiting for a scholarship decision ?

Yes, deposits must be paid in line with the University’s admissions policy.

When will I find out if my scholarship application has been successful?

All scholarship applications are assessed after the published closing date.

Do I need a programme offer to apply for a scholarship?

No, you do not need a programme offer to apply for scholarships. However, you do need to have a submitted programme application. As you will need your application number and student ID to register on the Scholarship Portal.

Applying for more than one scholarship

Applicants cannot be awarded more than one University funded scholarship. If you are awarded more than one scholarship, we would only apply the highest value award at registration. Receiving or accepting a scholarship offer does not make you ineligible to apply for other scholarships.

Can my scholarship offer be deferred?

Scholarship offers cannot be deferred. However you will be able to reapply for scholarships for the next academic year when applications open.

Scholarships available to January entrants

All our automatic scholarships will be open to January entrants. However, most of our competitive scholarships are only open for September entry.

Applying for Erasmus Mundus funding

You need to apply for Erasmus Mundus funding separately. Visit your specific programme webpage to check for scholarships.

Scholarships for Glasgow International College or foundation year students

Unfortunately, our scholarships are not available for Foundation Programmes. However, we do have a number of scholarships for students progressing from Glasgow International College to the University of Glasgow

Does the University of Glasgow offer loans to students?

University of Glasgow does not offer loans. However many students use payment plans to cover their tuition fees.

Do I need to meet my programme offer conditions, including English language requirements, to be eligible for a scholarship?

No, your scholarship application will be assessed regardless of your current offer conditions.

Can I work when receiving a University Scholarship?

Our scholarships do not affect your right to work in the UK. Further information is available from our International Student Support.

Do you offer fully funded scholarships?

Yes, we have a number of full scholarships availabl [see Find a scholarship]

I was not successful in securing a scholarship offer, can I reapply?

Unfortunately, reapplications are not permitted. Any duplicate applications will not be considered.

I have applied for more than one programme, how do I apply for scholarships?

Add each of your programmes to the scholarship portal and complete a separate scholarship application for each programme.

Scholarships for displaced students

As a University of Sanctuary, we have a number of awards for students affected by war or displacement.

Do you have any scholarships that can support my family when I relocate to Glasgow to study?

Unfortunately, we do not provide any scholarships for dependants of our students. Further information is available from our International Student Support and  the UK Government’s 'Study in the UK on a Student visa'.

How will I know if I am eligible for the auto-discount?

If you are eligible for the auto-discount, you will receive an email from us within a couple of days of receiving your programme offer.

What documents do I need to prepare to apply for scholarships?

This varies, depending on which scholarship you have applied for. If needed, this will be detailed on the application form.

Can I apply for scholarships if I don’t meet the 1st Class UK degree equivalency?

Yes, eligibility criteria vary between scholarship schemes  [see Find a scholarship].  If you are unsure whether you meet the criterion, please contact us.
