BSL cafes

Hand signing British Sign Language signs for B, S and L

As part of our Athena SWAN and inclusiveness activities, IHW now runs a monthly cafe-style event for staff and students interested in learning more about British Sign Language or practising existing BSL skills.

Led by Public Health's Lorraine Waddell, the aim is to provide an informal environment in which to explore BSL, whether you are a complete beginner or a more experienced user, and to raise awareness of deaf culture.

Unfortunately, due to COVID, we have had to suspend these face to face cafes for the moment. We have a MS Teams facility that colleagues can join in the meantime and anyone with an interest in learning this language and/or in finding out more about Deaf/deaf culture is most welcome to join us.
