UNESCO Chair Refugee Integration through Languages and the Arts (RILA)

In September 2019 the UNESCO RILA team will be organising a series of guided walks through various parts of Glasgow. For 4 evenings in a row, you are invited to join us on tours that will show you a different side of Glasgow, with a different story each day. Walks start at 6pm and will last about 2 hours, including the 30-minute introductory presentation/discussion. Tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided, to keep you going until dinner. This event is OPEN TO ALL, including children.

9 September: Warm Welcome Walk 1 - Migratory Music in Drumchapel. Join Mia Gubbay from Glasgow Museums in this true story quest for a musical instrument in Drumchapel. Meeting point Drumchapel Library. (free tickets here)

10 September: Warm Welcome Walk 2 - Exploring Migration in Govanhill. Join David Zabiega from the Govanhill Community Development Trust plus special guests on this tour of the area and learn more about past and present migration in Govanhill. Meeting point: Govanhill Housing Association. (free tickets here)

11 September: Warm Welcome Walk 3 - Glasgow's Slavery Legacies. Join Christine Whyte and Yvonne Blake from the University of Glasgow on this walk around the City Centre and the Merchant City to find out more about the traces of Slavery still visible in the city today. Meeting point: Spoon Café. (free tickets here)

12 September: Warm Welcome Walk 4 - Migration along the Kelvin. Join Selina Hales from Refuweegee and Paul Walton from the RSPB in this exploration of Glasgow's natural migratory environment around the Kelvin. Meeting point: Refuweegee shop. (free tickets here)
