Our Aims
Our mission is grounded in the partnership between the Catholic Church in Scotland, the University of Glasgow and the Scottish Government. This partnership recognises the distinctive nature of Catholic education and its ongoing contribution to the common good. The St. Andrew's Foundation aims to:
- develop an international profile across a range of research and scholarship activities in the field of Catholic education
- support the spiritual and pastoral formation of the staff and students of the School of Education
- develop high-quality ITE programmes and courses which manifest a particular professional ethos appropriate to teaching in Catholic schools
- lead the design and development of Catholic Religious Education courses in all ITE programmes
- serve as the hub of a range of professional learning events, conferences and research and knowledge transfer activities of national and international interest
- address the continuing professional learning needs of teachers in Catholic schools
- offer opportunities for leadership development for those aspiring to leadership in Catholic schools
- ensure that, through its Initial Teacher Education (ITE) recruitment policies, the University is able to meet the Scottish Government’s expectations for the provision of adequate numbers of teachers for Catholic schools
- ensure that the heritage of Catholic Teacher Education in Scotland continues to inform and enrich Catholic education today
