Piotr R. Slawinski is a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow and doctoral student at Vanderbilt University in Nashville TN, USA. He achieved a Bachelors in Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where he began his research in medical devices and robotics. His initial work was on simulating the mechanics of the small bowel for development of robotic capsule endoscopes and conducted work on investigating the use of diagnostic capsules for astronauts. His main research focus during his doctoral work is on magnetic propulsion of in-vivo devices for endoscopy. Piotr is working under the advisory of Professor Pietro Valdastri at the University of Leeds, UK. Recently, Piotr began collaborating with the Sonopill consortium in developing a magnetically actuated ultrasound capsule.
