UKRI Gambling Harms Centre

Gambling Harms Research UK is a new network funded by UKRI as part of its Research Programme on Gambling. Launched in May 2026, the network aims to address the lack of high‑quality independent evidence on gambling-related harms in order to support effective policy, prevention, and treatment.
The Gambling Harms Research UK network includes 19 Innovation Partnerships whose work is coordinated and supported by Gambling Harms Research UK Evidence Centre.
The Evidence Centre is run and managed by the Universities of Glasgow, Sheffield and Swansea, and Kings College London. It will work with government, health bodies, charities, people with lived experience of gambling as well as the wider research community.
Our vision is to catalyse a world‑leading, collaborative research ecosystem that delivers high‑impact evidence to understand and ultimately address gambling harms.
We will deliver this vision through:
- managing a comprehensive and innovative research programme on gambling harms
- building capacity in gambling harms research
- collaborating with stakeholders
- exploring how UKRI and other data assets can support generating new evidence
- coordinating the Gambling Harms Research UK Innovation Partnership

Both the Evidence Centre and the wider Gambling Harms Research UK Network will meaningfully embed the knowledge and expertise of people with lived and living experience of gambling harms into all stages of research design, helping to shape and deliver powerful, impactful evidence.
Independence from commercial gambling interests is central to the work of both the Centre and the Gambling Harms Research Network. As the UK’s first research centre on gambling harms that is free from industry involvement, this independence ensures that the evidence produced by Gambling Harms Research UK remains fully protected from commercial influence..
A dedicated website for the Gambling Harms Research UK network is being developed and will launch later in 2026. In the meantime, all enquiries should be directed to: gambling-research@glasgow.ac.uk
