Home is the theme of our Angus exhibitions:

Angus is one of those areas of Scotland which has recently been experiencing considerable population change in terms of new communities settling there. This process can be a challenge for both newcomers to the area and those born and bred in Angus. Therefore, for our Angus exhibitions we wanted to work on a theme that is important to all of us and will provide all residents, both those well-established in the area and those who have moved to Angus more recently, with the opportunity to reflect on some universal questions:

‘What is home?’

‘Where is home?’

‘What makes a place a home?’

‘When does a place become a home?’

The exhibition is very much community-based with contributions from professional as well as buddying artists: artwork and portraits of participants of the Make It Happen Angus! pop-up café in Arbroath, children from St Thomas RC Primary in Arbroath, local artists from the Participate Art Group, and local photographer Jarek Szaranek. It also includes some interactive activities for adults and children. For example, you can mark your ‘home’ on our map, describe your journeys or write what home means to you. Younger children can draw on our ‘magic island map’, older can write about their friends for our ‘friendship trees’ or add their label to our wishing tree. There is lots of fun information about some European traditions in our Make It Happen Angus! section. We will also be running some workshops for schoolchildren during the exhibition.

The exhibition first opens in Arbroath Library and will then move to Brechin Museum.

Exhibition celebration event in Arbroath Library: 12th June 2017, 5.30-6.30pm.

Come and join us for a celebration of the exhibition in Arbroath Library on 12th June 2017, 5.30-6.30pm. This will be an opportunity to view the exhibition in a relaxed atmosphere and mingle with the people involved in it – and to do some of our interactive activities! Light refreshments, nibbles and wine will be on offer. Everybody who would like to speak to the artists who have worked on it, and participants and members of the SSAMIS Project is welcome.
