Rapid Surveys

As a participant in our rapid survey activity, will ask you to respond to three short surveys per day for four weeks (Monday to Sunday inclusive, outside school hours). This methodology is called Ecological Momentary Assessment (EMA), and aims to understand how your mood and feelings may change from moment to moment. It should take between 1-2 minutes to complete each single rapid survey, making a total of 3-6 minutes per day to complete all entries.

The questions will explore your thoughts and values and are answered in what is called the likert-style. You may have answered these types of questions before. For example, we may provide the statement - Today I was helpful to my family ….and you would choose an answer 1-5 with 1 meaning Strongly Agree and 5 meaning Strongly Disagree.

To find out a little more about you, we will ask you to complete what we call a baseline measure before you can complete the rapid surveys. This is a series of questions that help us to understand how you think about a range of issues in your life. This part of the process is a little time consuming, we estimate 25-35 minutes, but this initial commitment is reflected in the level of compensation offered for the completion of the rapid surveys.

We will analyse this data to help understand how values develop, the ways in which they are communicated and role they play in people’s lives. Your identity and responses will be held confidentially, and no one except the researchers will be able to identify you or your school.

In recognition of the effort it takes to complete rapid surveys, a token of appreciation of between £15 and £40 in vouchers will be sent to you, with the amount dependent on the number of entries you complete (more detailed information regarding the compensation scheme will be sent you on sign-up).
