Carbon: life forming, ubiquitous, a measure of deep time, and a matter of political and environmental urgency. Foundational to life and yet, in its extraction from nature, a fundamental threat to it. Enabler of new digital technologies, and a measure of the exchanges between ecology and economy.
Featuring works by a range of international artists including Marina Zurkow, Ishan Tankha, and Annelie Berner, CARBON: Under Pressure is a multidisciplinary exploration of our carbon pasts and present, and a call to better understand the futures enabled by this fascinating element.
CARBON: Under Pressure runs at the Mazumdar-Shaw Advanced Research Centre from 4 – 29 June and is shown as part of Glasgow Science Festival 2025. It is presented in partnership with the Science Gallery Bengaluru and with the kind support of Glasgow Changing Futures, a strategic programme at the University of Glasgow which supports the University’s vision to be the world-changing university.
