Course Aims
As one of the core courses of the MSc in Racism and Imperialism, the primary aim of this course is to introduce students to the key theories that seek to explain both the historical formation of racism and the conditions for its reproduction today. The course will be multidisciplinary in nature drawing liberally from history as well as social sciences like sociology and anthropology.
Intended Learning Outcomes of Course
By the end of the course, students should:
· have acquired a scientific vocabulary with which to discuss theories of race and racism.
· show an awareness of the role played by the processes of racialization and racism in the making of the modern world.
· have become thoroughly familiar with the key literature in the area.
· be able to demonstrate this familiarity through seminar presentations and written work.
