Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) guide

What is CAS?

CAS is an online document which is issued by the University but held by the UK Government Home Office on their Sponsor Management System. It is identified by a 14 digit reference number.

If you require a visa to study in the UK, we will issue you with a CAS once you have accepted an unconditional offer.

Your CAS email will include your 14 digit CAS reference number which you require to apply for a student visa.

Obtaining your CAS

We will start issuing CAS around four months before the course start date.

You must:

• upload all required documents to meet the conditions of your offer
• make sure you have uploaded a copy of the passport you intend to travel on
• paid any requested deposit (this will have been outlined in your initial offer)
• Have accepted only one unconditional offer.

Timeframe for receiving your CAS

Your CAS number is only valid for six months. We will start issuing CAS around four months before the start date of the course.

If you accepted your unconditional offer more than four months before, it will be issued at this time.

If you accept your unconditional offer less than four months before the course start date, you will receive your CAS for approval within three working days.

Viewing and approving your draft CAS

We will prepare a draft version of your CAS which you will be able to view, approve and request changes to, through your Applicant Self Service CAS tile. You will receive notification by email when your CAS draft is available for review.

After you have approved the draft, your CAS number will be sent via email within 3 working days. If you need to request changes to the draft, an Admissions Officer will review and update if required, after which your CAS number will be sent within 3 working days.

If we have requested additional documents to be uploaded to support the preparation of your CAS, you will be able to view and upload via Applicant Self-Service. Once uploaded, your draft CAS will be sent within 3 working days.

Additional fee payments

Please note that the CAS details provide an overview of the payments that you have made towards your tuition or accommodation fees up to the date you approved your draft CAS.

We strongly recommend that you do not make any further payments until you have received your student visa. If you must make a payment to meet the visa financial requirements, then we will NOT update your CAS but instead you can include copies of receipts with your visa application. We are unable to make amendments to your CAS to show the additional funds that you have paid.

Receiving a joint CAS for an academic course and English language pre-sessional course

Joint CAS are available to students joining the June and July Entry Pre-Sessional Courses if they meet the following criteria:

June entry

• conditional University of Glasgow academic offer where the only condition is IELTS overall 6.5 (some academic programmes may be excluded)

and

• SELT equivalent to minimum IELTS 6.0 with writing 6.0 and no more than one skill at 5.5.

July entry

• unconditional University of Glasgow offer
