Research Summary

Assessing the opportunities of district heating and cooling networks with decentralised energy substations for a holistic energy system decarbonisation. A holistic system facilitates sector coupling by integrating the electricity network to the thermal network, waste heat utilisation and energy recycling between heating and cooling demands of prosumers (producers and consumers).

This project is an Industrial PhD, part of the Energy Technology Partnership’s (ETP) Industrial Energy Industry Doctorate Programme which is supported and co-funded by the Scottish Funding Council. The project has received a grant for 3.5 years which involves the participation of an industrial partner, Ramboll, the University of Glasgow and the University of Edinburgh.
