Research title: Middle Eastern Political Identity & Ideologies and Immigrant Integration in the UK: The Role of Transnational Identity Narratives

Research Summary

My research explores how political narratives and ideological frameworks influence the integration experiences of immigrant communities in the UK, with a focus on Middle Eastern backgrounds. I examine how ideas, institutions, and transnational identity narratives shape perceptions of belonging and participation in British civic life. The study aims to contribute to a deeper understanding of how political and social contexts interact in shaping integration processes and policy debates around migration and diversity in the UK.

Additional Information

I have over five years of experience working within Scotland’s third sectors organisations, supporting refugees, asylum seekers, and newly arrived communities. My professional background includes fieldwork and casework with Community InfoSource, where I deliver practical support, community workshops, and awareness initiatives on integration, housing, and social inclusion.

Before beginning my PhD, I completed an MSc in The Middle East in Global Politics at the University of Edinburgh and a Degree in Politics, International Relations at the University of Strathclyde. I also hold a BA in Geography from Soran University in Iraq, where my studies focused on political geography and regional dynamics in the Middle East. Alongside my academic background, I have professional experience in journalism and community engagement, which has strengthened my ability to connect academic research with real-world social issues. These combined experiences inform my commitment to producing research that bridges policy, practice, and lived experience, contributing to more inclusive approaches to integration and belonging in the UK.
