Following Donald Dewar?s death in 2000, the University of Glasgow set up a public fundraising campaign to commemorate Donald and his achievements, and furthered his goals by creating the Donald Dewar Scholarships.

These awards are intended to provide University access for students who may not otherwise have had the opportunity to continue their education. The first Donald Dewar scholarship was awarded in session 2005-6

Additionally, Ruth Lister was appointed as the first Donald Dewar Visiting Professor of Social Justice and Public Policy in January 2005.

To honour Donald?s name further, his name, along with that of his lifelong friend, John Smith, has been added to the University?s Memorial Gates on University Avenue.
