Congratulations to University staff honoured by the Queen

The Queen's New Year Honours list for 2006, announced today, includes prominent Glasgow academics

Professor Graham Teasdale (Department of Clinical Neuroscience) has been awarded a knighthood for services to neurosurgery and victims of head injuries. Professor Teasdale, with fellow neurosurgeon and academic Professor Brian Jennett, developed the Glasgow Coma Scale - a globally-recognised scale of consciousness in coma patients. He is also president of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow.

Professor Malcolm McLeod, Pro Vice Principal, received a CBE for services to education and to museums. The award was made under the heading of the G8, recognising Professor McLeod's work in organising the pre-summit academic conference held at the University, and of his ongoing work on, and in, Africa.

Sister Isabel Smyth SND, formerly of the Department of Theology nd Religious Studies, was awarded an OBE for her services to inter-faith relations. Sister Isabel was the Chief Executive of the Scottish Inter-faith Council.

Also knighted was Dr Craig Reedie, until recently a lay member of the University Court, for his services to sport. He was chair of the British Olympic Assocaition for 13 years.
