University of Glasgow student Fiona Michel reaches the finals of national business awards

University of Glasgow Engineering student Fiona Michel is to take part in the final Year in Industry Undergraduate Contribution to the Business Award on Thursday 8th September 2005 after winning the regional round. Fiona will compete against five other candidates who will all present projects completed during their sandwich year placements with local industry.

Fiona spent her year out working at National Grid/Scotland Gas Networks. She was given the task of creating an electronic process for the issue of electricity cable drawings to emergency gas engineers. Her project has resulted in savings of approximately £400k per annum.

Fiona says: 'It was a complete surprise to win 3 awards at the regional final. I'm fairly nervous about doing my presentation in London next week but looking forward to it too. My year in industry has been a great experience and it's been such a bonus winning the awards and getting to represent Scotland in the final.'

The winner will receive a cheque for £1000. Fiona will return to Glasgow University to complete her degree in Mechanical Engineering this autumn.
