Author of "Uses of Literacy" lectures on future of adult education

As part of the programme of events marking the 50th anniversary of the Department of Adult and Continuing Education (DACE), Professor Richard Hoggart will present the DACE Jubilee Lecture, entitled 'Adult Education: the legacy and the future', at 5.15pm on Thursday 18 October in the Western Lecture Theatre, University of Glasgow.

Richard Hoggart is one of the seminal figures in British Adult Education and Cultural Studies. From the publication of the 'Uses of Literacy ' in 1957 to the present day, Professor Hoggart's work has stimulated debate across a range of academic disciplines. The DACE Jubilee Lecture presents a rare opportunity to hear him lecture in Scotland.

The Department of Adult Continuing Education at the University of Glasgow is one of Scotland's leading centres for lifelong learning. DACE provides a variety of courses for adults throughout Glasgow and the West of Scotland and promotes wider access to education through teaching and research. In addition to the jubilee lecture, a number of special events are planned in recognition of the past work of the department and its future role in lifelong learning.
