University hosts auction in aid of children's hospice and Glasgow students

As part of its 550th anniversary celebrations, the University of Glasgow is holding a charity art auction in the Bute Hall at 8pm today, Thursday 22 November. The auction will raise funds for the Children's Hospice Association Scotland (CHAS) and help University of Glasgow Art History students to study abroad.

Local artist Louise Annand recently donated a painting to the University for the charity auction. Amongst items already donated is an entirely new print by Professor Sir Eduardo Paolozzi CBE, the Queen's Sculptor in Scotland. Bonhams Auctioneers will support the event by donating their valuation and auctioneer services.

Professor Malcolm McLeod, Vice-Principal External Relations and Marketing, said: "The event will be an art auction in the widest sense. So far we have received professional and amateur works of art as well as other interesting items."

Donations include signed paintings, prints, photographs, classical records, wines, silver, ceramics, needlework and books and manuscripts. Among the contributors are Elizabeth Blackadder, Frederick Forsyth, PD James, Christine McArthur, Emeritus Professor Edwin Morgan, Philip Reeves, Ruth Rendell, Alma Wolfson and the University's three Professors of Creative Writing, Alasdair Gray, James Kelman and Tom Leonard. A full list of the art works is available on the web and several of the auction items can be viewed at: www.events.gla.ac.uk/auction

There will be approximately 90 works for sale by auction, prices are expected to range from under £100 to over £1,000.
